Sebagai UX Writer, salah satu hal yang krusial adalah bagaimana menggunakan kata-kata dengan tepat guna. Belum lagi, penggunaan bahasa asing yang memerlukan riset & penyesuaian untuk ‘berkomunikasi’ dengan user.

Namun… Tak semua bisa lentur begitu saja. Ada beberapa hal yang ternyata, ada baiknya, perlu disesuaikan. Ada yang terlihat sama, ternyata berbeda.

SELECT VS CHOOSE

Choose can be used to describe both the act of choosing from a range of options and the act of making a yes/no decision. Select can only be used to describe the act of choosing from a range of options. (https://www.cygnet.com.hk/)

Selections are often free-form — some part of a photo, one or more not-necessarily-contiguous items in a table, a range (possibly even vertical) of text. Choices tend to be between discrete items: a list of languages, a list of web browsers. (Brent Simmons)

Kurang lebih begini. Untuk sesuatu yang determining, gunakanlah choose. Untuk yang sifatnya ‘hanya memilih’, gunakan select.

REMOVE VS DELETE

The difference between remove and delete is that remove is to move something from one place to another, especially to take away something from the system, while delete is to get rid of or erase, especially written or printed material, or data on a computer. (Brent Simmons)

Delete means something gets erased from the system completely. Remove means that it still exists in the system, just not visible in the UI. (Masha S)

Pada kasus remove, dapat diketahui bahwa nama ‘employee’ akan tetap ada dalam sistem. Sedangkan pada kasus delete, komen yang terhapus akan tidak dapat ditemukan lagi dalam sistem.
